Where do McCain and Obama Stand on Social Security Disability? |

|
For the millions of Americans who pay into the Social Security system weekly the issue of Social Security Disability is probably one of the furthest things from their mind. Social Security Disability is a topic close to home for many families and it's a topic every American worker should be thinking about in Election 2008.
Where do the Candidates Stand on Social Security Disability?
The topic of Social Security and Social Security Disability in particular has taken a backseat this election season to many other political topics. Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain do not have strong statements on this issue.
What are the Issues?
For men and women over the age of 50 it is currently easier to prove disability. The SSA understands that is much harder to obtain training and employment after the age of 50. In an effort to save money if the age was pushed back from 50 to 55 those ages 50-54 will still be just as unemployable, but would be far less likely to receive benefits.
Opinion of NationalDisabilityLawyer.com about Social Security Disability and Election 2008:
It is the opinion of NationalDisabilityLawyer.com that 'not much' is going to change in the Social Security Disability system. Regardless of which candidate (McCain or Obama) is elected, the most likely fixes to the system will include pushing back the retirement age, income indexing of retirement benefits and increasing the amount of earned income subject to Social Security tax.
