Questions to ask your Social Security Disability Lawyer | Print |

In finding and choosing a Social Security disability lawyer don’t be afraid to ask questions. You might want to start with these three:

1. How many cases have you tried?
There is no minimum number here, but experience is critical. At Berry & Associates, even our most junior Social Security Attorney has more experience than most Social Security attorneys around the country and has tried hundreds of cases.

2. Have you had cases featuring my particular health problems before?
Social Security lawyers are not doctors. But the truth is most experienced Social Security Disability lawyers will be familiar with your condition...or willing to learn bout it. Disabling conditions that we handle routinely include...

Social Security Disability Conditions
Diabetes Cancer (all types) Depression
COPD Bipolar disorder Schizophrenia
Chronic back pain Failed back surgery Neuropathy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Crohns Disease IBS
Chronic Migraines Congestive Heart Failure Parkinsons Disease
Vertigo/Vestibular Disorder Cognitive Disorder Lupus
Fibromyalgia Seizure Disorder Stroke
RSD AIDS Interstitial Cystitis
Sickle Cell Anemia Gastroparesis Degenerative Nerve Disease
Avascular Necrosis Narcolepsy Cystic fibrosis
Kidney Failure Cirrhosis/Liver Disease Arthritis

When your lawyer understands the nature of your disability, he or she can be more effective in preparing and presenting your case.

3. How will your office handle my case?
This is an interesting and important question. If the Social Security Disability Lawyer has the experience and knowledge you want, you can bet that he is in court a good bit. Most Social Security lawyers will use highly trained paralegals as case mangers to help with client communication and medical development. That said, you should make sure that the Disability Lawyer is ultimately in charge of your case and that a lawyer, not a paralegal, will be at your hearing.

Your Social Security Disability Lawyer is your advocate. He is, or should be, an expert in this field and this type of practice should make up at least half of his practice. The next steps is to fill out a case evaluation an see if Berry & Associates can help you with your claim.
